Why Sex and Aging?
Dr. Janie is an educator, speaker, researcher, and writer who has spent her career diving headfirst into the world of aging. Armed with a PhD with an emphasis in Gerontology from the University of Southern California, she’s been exploring the fascinating complexities of getting older for years. Her expertise covers everything from the physical and emotional aspects of aging to the often-overlooked parts—like the fact that, yes, older adults do have sex (more on that in a minute!).

Her curiosity about sexual behavior sparked way back when she was a teenager, sneaking into her mom’s dresser to flip through Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex. Fast forward a few years, and Dr. Janie realized something: nobody seemed to be talking about the sexual lives of older adults. Whether it was the myth that people stop having sex as they age or the collective cringe at the idea of grandparents getting it on, it seemed like the whole topic was wrapped in silence.

So, Dr. Janie decided to change that. She fused her two passions—aging and sexual behavior—and set out to shed some light on sex and aging. Her mission? To explore, inform, and, most importantly, break down the taboos and focus on a lifelong sexuality.
She’s here to talk about the fun, the challenges, the awkward moments, and the joy that comes with sex as we age. Sex changes as we age and with it can come new challenges, but nonetheless, sex can and should be exciting and fun! Dr. Janie believes no topic is too "icky" or off-limits, so let’s have some real talk about the highs, the lows, and everything in between when it comes to sex and aging.
